It’s been a while since we spoke
Greetings followers of my boring life.
Surprise…it’s not boring anymore. So much is going on that my head is spinning. As if I didn’t have enough on my plate, I’m now working part time cleaning rooms and doing laundry at the local resort. At least they call themselves a resort. It’s a motel/rv/camping park that is just a few block from us. The people are wonderful to work with, although a little disorganized for my comfort. Our busy time is on the weekends, of course, and I am getting 2 short days and 2 days off during the week. The best parts are that Rick is working with me doing all the heavy twisty kind of work, which is saving a lot of my back discomfort and I really am enjoying the satisfaction of taking a room or cabin from disaster to welcoming and clean.
In my spare time…there isn’t enough anymore…we have baby geese, turkeys, guineas, chicks and rabbits to keep us entertained. I just took some pictures of the chicks and will post them soon. One of my hens is still sitting on peacock eggs and I should be able to candle them soon to see if there are babies inside. It’s hard to wait enough days.
I’m not able to spend enough time with the baby geese to make them very friendly. In time they will associate me with food and become my buddies. The adult turkeys, Doris and Dorothy make up for the slight. They are in my pocket the whole time I am out with them. They are good with the babies so soon the baby turkeys and guineas will be running with them. All of them are keeping Buddy on his toes keeping them safe and where he thinks they should be.
The weather has been extremely beautiful. Warm, sunny, and so good for the garden and yard. I just have a little more planting in the garden and it will be maxed out. I wish I had more space because I have lots more seeds that could be growing to be on the table in a couple of months. Tonight, I just picked more asparagas and pulled some green onions for dinner. I have rabbit soon going into the marinade to be barbequed soon. We went to a barbeque a couple of nights ago and brought rabbit to grill and it was a great hit even to the ones who associated it with a bunny. I’m making believers out of most of my friends.
We now have water in the big fish pond. It’s 4 or 5 feet deep by 4 or 5 feet wide and at least 10 feet long. It’s huge. Tomorrow Tina is going to get into it and help me with the last sealing and smoothing out of the sides of the liner. We used old water and air bed mattresses topped with a huge tarp we had. The tarp was a little stiff so we have to look at the wrinkles until the algae makes it all look green and natural. Our two gold fish who have survived through unbelievable hardships and still survived are very happy and content in it. When we put Elliott (craw dad) in the pond, the first thing he did was escape and is now on his own somewhere. We enjoyed him while we had him. My sister has a bunch of baby fish from her pond to help us populate this huge pond. It’s going to take a million rocks and lots of work to get it finished off. When Tina is in the pond, I’m sure I won’t be able to resist getting pictures and will gladly share her discomfort. The temperature is supposed to be in the 80’s tomorrow, so she might like the cool. We took video of the cats trying to fish today. It’s a riot.
I worked about 5 hours in the garden yesterday after getting off work. It was a cool, cloudy day and a perfect day to spend time weeding and admiring. I almost finished it all before pooping out. I probably would have gotten more done, but my new Mama hen with her 3 chicks was hovering around with her babies. The cats wanted to be in the garden with me, but she is so protective that she kept them outside the fence. There are learning the hard way not to mess with Mama hen or her babies. She has one baby that just isn’t quite right. He has trouble keeping up with her and the other two. She leaves him behind a lot but always has a eye on him to keep him safe. It gives me a chance to cuddle him a little without her being nervous. Just as I was finishing up, she was getting ready to settle them down for the night and led the other two over to the baby who just sits and waits for her. She came about 6 inches from him and coaxed him to come to her. He struggled to get to her and she reached down and pulled him close to her chest with her beak. While he leaned in close to her, she nibbled at him giving him lots of chicken kisses. When the other two came over close, she was giving them all gentle pecks with her beak and one by one they crawled underneath her feathers to be warm for the night. It was a sweet thing to watch and made my already wonderful day complete.
That’s all for now. Have a great day!!!
