Snuggle time
I guess while I am sitting here letting my unnamed chick cuddle with me I will fire off a few lines on the blog today.
The company is gone and I have spent most of the day being lazy. It is sprinkling outside so haven’t ventured outside but am planning to buzz out there for a quicky once the cuddle time is over. If this little guy doesn’t get a companion soon, I will have to name...
65 and Enjoying the Sunshine
Just a few lines today as I sit here in the dark waiting for the household to get up. We are making an early start this morning for Moses Lake to meet up with my daughter and her family and another who like a daughter and her boys. There will be four of us traveling together so it should be a fun day for all I hope.
A couple of days ago my bestest friend from Colorado surprised me with a visit...

Can you hear me screaming inside?
I know none of my followers ever have days when they get so frustrated that they just want to throw up your hands and give up. Me neither!!!! But I will say that I am getting close to that right now.
I wouldn’t say by any means that I am a meticulous housekeeper although there was a day in one of my past lives that I did have a house that stayed showroom ready and I was so organized that...
A trip to the city
On the 27th of every month one of our checks hits the bank and we usually take a quick trip to pick up animal feed, a few groceries, material, material, material, and lunch at IKEA. I love their meatballs. Soon the material will stop and it will be seeds, seeds, seeds.
Today we had to also deliver a birthday present to a really sweet girl. The wild quilt I just made has been delivered. She...
Lady Charlotte alive and well
I can’t believe that our Lady Charlotte who was a half (or more) dead turkey hen last week is now up on her own and eating us out of house and home. She is chowing down on anything I give her. I am amazed and in awe!!!!
All of her wounds are healing and looking pretty scabby. The best part is that she is getting up on her own and walking. Tomorrow, Rick is going to take her out to the...
A little background before we get going again.
Now that we have the basics of where I am at this time and what is occupying my time, lets take some time on two subjects for the next couple of weeks. The first being an introduction to our little wanna be farm and the second being the road to becoming able to live a self-sustaining existence. At nearly 65 years old it’s a little late for both, but I am going to try with the help of a strong...
It's been a while since I was here
It has been 8 months since I last put pen to paper and wrote something on this blog. That means it’s time to get back into the swing of things. Soon I will be planting seeds, hatching chicks, and welcoming baby goats into the barn if Billy Bob did his job.
Right now it is the dead of winter and a time to look back at what we did right last year, what we did absolutely wrong and what we...

Update of baby bird
He flew away finally. Mama had abandoned him. Poor guy. They kept taking him out of the traffic, and he kept going back. Finally, the traffic got him.
It makes me angry. If the kids had just left the nest alone, he probably would be alive. So now I’ve vented and I feel better.
I'm a hero
Just got the news that the man I turned in was the escaped convict and he is behind bars.
A little excitement on Dog Creek Road
When I got to work today, there was a picture of an escaped convict on the desk. Several times during the day as I went in and out of the office I kept seeing his picture. He had escaped from a work crew at Swift Creek about 5 miles from here and in Skamania county.
When we came home from work and were walking from the truck to the house a man was walking down the road and came in and talked to...
8 is enough
We ended up with 8 babies. Little lemon colored fluffy balls running around the chicken yard following Mama. Too Cute!!
I'm a computer idiot!!!
You all knew that. I couldn’t figure out how to get on to post when the computer didn’t automatically put me in the right place. Today I got brave and tried a few things and got on. At least I hope that’s where I am.
We’ve been having so much fun and anguish with our birds. My mama’s are so confused, but I think I’m keeping it straight. One mama hen has...

The continuing saga of Shorty
I hope this saga has a happy ending.
Yesterday afternoon was sunny and very humid. Tina and I sat on the porch and admired the thunderheads as they quickly grew north of us. But quite suddenly the sky grew extremely black and threatening and the wind picked up blowing little cyclones of dust down the road.
Then the lightning and thunder hit. Poor gimpy Shorty couldn’t quite keep up with...
Every thing has a purpose
That’s easy to say, but not easy to actually enjoy.
Today was breeding day for my rabbits. What fun…quick and to the point. Bugsy, my beautiful, loving buck had gained a little weight so I have had him on a diet. It was hard to not give him his favorite treats when he is so cute when he begs. I was strong and could really tell the difference in his performance today. He...

It's been a while since we spoke
Greetings followers of my boring life.
Surprise…it’s not boring anymore. So much is going on that my head is spinning. As if I didn’t have enough on my plate, I’m now working part time cleaning rooms and doing laundry at the local resort. At least they call themselves a resort. It’s a motel/rv/camping park that is just a few block from us. The people are...
Update time
I was just looking at the baby geese this morning and my, how they have grown. I will have to get another picture soon. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to spend enough time with them and they are growing up without the close relationship I like to have.
The baby turkeys and guineas are also growing by leaps and bounds. The guineas are flying out of their box and roosting on the sides...
A walk to the garden
It seems Mother Nature can’t make up her mind whether it is supposed to be warm or cold. For several days we had 70 and 80 degree days and it was absolutely wonderful. Then suddenly it was in the 40’s and 50’s for days. Today it is at least 70, but from what I am hearing we are back in the 40’s tomorrow and several days after tomorrow. It’s May, so this can’t last forever!!!
My garden doesn’t...

It must be Spring
You can’t believe the way my garden is growing. I am so pleased to see the cabbage, spinach, brussel sprouts, broccoli, lettuces, pumpkins, squashes, etc growing so well. I moved some into the garden this week and they seem to be doing well. I still have them covered with glass to protect them from the light frost we are getting most nights.
Serena and Lumpy went to a new home today. I...
But....you promised us sunshine
Tina was just here and commented on how she feels she is living in a snowglobe. It just keeps coming down and then stops long enough to melt some and then it snows again. It is beautiful, I will have to admit, but enough is enough.
It only took 5 days for some of my seeds to produce little sprouts. Now it will be exciting each day to watch them grow. We have lettuce, 2 kinds of cabbage,...
One more tantrum and then we are done
I guess we are due for about 6 more inches of snow. I hope this is it for awhile. There is still some piles of snow hanging around from the December snow storm.
This week I bought most of the seeds for the garden. Tonight I couldn’t sleep, so I planted all the ones that start inside. It was so nice to play in the dirt. We are planning a big garden this year. Tina and I are both...

Spring is in the Air
Spring is in the air…I just hope Mother Nature is paying attention and doesn’t surprise us with a tantrum. I was outside today and noticed that my hyacinth were coming up. I hope the elk don’t notice also. Someone told me to plant garlic and the elk and moles will leave things alone. I’m going to give it a try this year. The elk aren’t as hungry as they were last...
Rooster
I was looking out of the window today and watching a couple of our banty chickens maneuver over the top of the snow (still 18 inches) and had to smile. Yesterday we got a few more inches and as they walked every 3rd step or so would sink in lower. They were staggering like a bunch of drunks. Finally, one flew the rest of the way and the rest followed. I was so concentrating on them; I didn’t...
